EMU Media Service: 3rd arson attack on Swedish mosque underscores need for solidarity

STRASBOURG (EMU) Another – the 3rd in a row – mosque in Sweden was attacked by arson. The crime took place in the early hours of January 1st in the city of Uppsala where the place of prayer was attacked by unknown assailants with a firebomb.

The first in this chains of events of events happened at christmas eve in Eskilstuna where five people where injured by cowards using the same method. In all the cases – for which no group took responsibility so far – the police authorities are suspecting racist motives.

The European Muslim Union regrets those highly criminal and destructive acts like these against places of prayer and community in Sweden – as well as in other European countries. Attacking places of worship or setting fire to them is indeed a sign of a most negative mindset. EMU is calling European Muslims therefore to be in solidarity with Sweden’s Muslims.

Furthermore – and most importantly – EMU, its member organizations and affiliates are maintaining its positive campaign and drive towards the fascination of Islam in Europe.
